Floor Sanding Hamilton
Hamilton Floor Sanding (ML3): The look of your flooring is something which sets your property in Hamilton apart from those of your friends and neighbours. A beautiful looking floor can add value to your home and transform the whole look of any room. The most attractive of all floor surfaces is natural wood, and the truth is that most of us already have a wooden floor, but cover it up with carpets and other artificial materials. Having your existing wooden floor sanded down, sealed and finished is the easy way to get that floor you have always dreamed of.
There are a number of companies in the Hamilton area and throughout Scotland, who you could contact for floor sanding services. Obviously with a quite significant project like this you need to find somebody decent. If you have a friend or family member who has had this kind of work done they might be able to give a recommendation for a floor sanding company in Hamilton who do a good job. This isn't really something that you want to try yourself unless you are a really competent do-it-yourselfer, and you can get your hands on the right equipment.
The sort of hand held sander that you have in your toolbox is not the proper choice for a project of this size, and you could get yourself in a right pickle if you try to tackle the job with one of these. Any respectable floor sanding company in Hamilton will not even consider using tools like this for such a task and will have professional floor sanding machinery that makes short work of it without too much mess or dust.
Of course this professional machinery is available for hire throughout Scotland, if not in Hamilton itself, if you decide to go down the do-it-yourself route. It isn't cheap to hire, so get yourself organised and try to get all the sanding done in one day. You will obviously not have to stress about this if you employ a flooring company as they will provide all this equipment themselves.
Before any sanding actually begins the relevant rooms will need to be completely clear of furniture and furnishings. Carpets and associated flooring will need to be removed, as will any nails or screws which are sticking up from the flooring. The sanding machine has to be swept around the room so it is better without any obstructions in the way.
To end up with a really smooth and damage free floor surface, some additional repair work may need to be done. The entire floor will have to be inspected with a fine tooth comb to identify any splits, defects and cracks, which can be repaired and filled with a good quality wood filler. Similar attention can be given to holes left by nails or screws and damage caused by carpet grippers and threshold strips. The wood filler needs to be matched at closely as possible to the colour of the wood.
The last stage of the process will be sealing and finishing your floor. These days not everybody uses sealer on wood floors since the modern varnishes are supposed to do the job of sealing and finishing your sanded wood surface. Our own opinion is that it is better to give your floor a coat of sealant first, as this brings out the natural colour of the wood, gives extra protection against scratching and staining, and gives the perfect base for the final coats of varnish. For varnishing use a good quality polyurethane product such as Ronseal Diamond Hard Floor Varnish and give it two or three coats.
