Floor Sanding Marlow
Marlow Floor Sanding (SL7): If your property in Marlow has wooden floorboards there is always the possibility that use could use this beautiful natural material as your final floor surface, rather than covering it up with man-made products such as carpet and vinyl. This will probably add some value to your property and also reduce the incidence of dust, allergens and mites, which is especially beneficial if you suffer from asthma or allergies. Having your floorboards sanded down would be the first step in this process.
If you do decide to go ahead and get your wooden floors sanded down you will need to find the right people to do it. A quick search on the internet or in the local Marlow newspaper will turn up a few possibilities. Alternatively you could try asking family or friends to recommend someone. Doing floor sanding yourself is probably not an option unless you are a really accomplished DIYer, and even then you will have to hire some pretty decent equipment which could still be costly.
Your first thought will probably be that this is going to create an awful lot of mess and dust, but that is actually not the case. Your floor sanding company will not be using little hand held sanders such as those you might have used for sanding down a door or some paintwork. They will turn up with some pretty hefty equipment which includes an extraction system that sucks up all the dust as the sanding progresses.
The best floor sanders are made by companies like: Lagler, Pallmann, Bona and Hummer, and most of these are available to hire in places around Buckinghamshire if you cannot find any in Marlow itself. Obviously you will only need to do this if you do elect to press ahead with your own floor sanding project, since specialist companies will have their own sanders. Check with the hire company to find out exactly what you need and take it from there if you take this route.
While you could perhaps move stuff from one side of the room to the other while doing the sanding, it is much better if the room is cleared completely. This should include soft furnishings and furniture, plus any existing floor coverings such as carpets, underlay and grippers. Any screws or nails that are protruding from the floorboards will also need to be removed or punched below the surface.
To end up with a really smooth and damage free floor surface, some additional repair work may need to be done. The entire floor will have to be inspected with a fine tooth comb to identify any splits, defects and cracks, which can be repaired and filled with a good quality wood filler. Similar attention can be given to holes left by nails or screws and damage caused by carpet grippers and threshold strips. The wood filler needs to be matched at closely as possible to the colour of the wood.
The next job is to give the sanded floor a generous coat of sealer, Liberon is usually a good choice. This provides a perfect base on which to brush the finishing coats of varnish, and offers some valuable extra protection against a number of issues which could affect your floor in the future. This will be resistant to alcohol, heat and water, and also help prevent scratching, scuffing and staining. Once dry, your floorboards can then be given a quick final sanding with smooth paper and finally 2 or 3 coats of finishing varnish.
If you need floor sanding in High Wycombe, Rosehill, Rotten Row, Lane End, Cookham, Booker, Maidenhead, Lower Woodend, Little Marlow, Medmenham, Wooburn Green, Hurley Bottom, Burnham, Taplow, Cookham Dean, Bisham, Hurley, or alternative areas of Buckinghamshire, most Marlow floor sanding companies will be quite happy to oblige.
Maintenance of Wood Floors
A wood floor needs regular maintenance no matter whether its in an office, a busy pub or the living room of your house. Sweep dust away daily if possible and clean using a patent wood floor cleaner and a microfibre cloth or mop. Remember to use felt pads on the feet of your furniture, take off shoes before walking into the room and immediately wipe away anything that is spilt on the floor, especially anything hot or chemical based. You want to avoid any areas wearing through to the bare wood, which will make it hard to repair, so keep your eyes peeled for this issue.
