Floor Sanding Poole
Poole Floor Sanding (BH15): If your property in Poole has wooden floorboards there is always the possibility that use could use this beautiful natural material as your final floor surface, rather than covering it up with man-made products such as carpet and vinyl. This will probably add some value to your property and also reduce the incidence of dust, allergens and mites, which is especially beneficial if you suffer from asthma or allergies. Having your floorboards sanded down would be the first step in this process.
If you do decide to go ahead and get your wooden floors sanded down you will need to find the right people to do it. A quick search on the internet or in the local Poole newspaper will turn up a few possibilities. Alternatively you could try asking family or friends to recommend someone. Doing floor sanding yourself is probably not an option unless you are a really accomplished DIYer, and even then you will have to hire some pretty decent equipment which could still be costly.
Your first thought will probably be that this is going to create an awful lot of mess and dust, but that is actually not the case. Your floor sanding company will not be using little hand held sanders such as those you might have used for sanding down a door or some paintwork. They will turn up with some pretty hefty equipment which includes an extraction system that sucks up all the dust as the sanding progresses.
Companies such as: Pallmann, Lagler, Bona and Hummer produce professional floor sanding machinery, and many of these can of course be hired from tool hire businesses around Poole and elsewhere in Dorset, should you need one. If you're using a specialist floor sanding service for the project, you will not need to concern yourself with that though. It is however worth bearing in mind if you do choose to do your own floors.
While you could perhaps move stuff from one side of the room to the other while doing the sanding, it is much better if the room is cleared completely. This should include soft furnishings and furniture, plus any existing floor coverings such as carpets, underlay and grippers. Any screws or nails that are protruding from the floorboards will also need to be removed or punched below the surface.
In order to get your sanded floor up to the required standard there will be some more work to do before any sealing or finishing can take place. There could be some splits and cracks in the floorboards and also screw and nail holes, which all need to be filled with a suitably coloured wood filler. The repaired areas will need to be given a final sanding with a fine abrasive to give that super fine finish.
Before the newly sanded wood floor is given its final coats of varnish, it should be sealed with a good quality product like Liberon. While some people think that this is no longer necessary, you are only going to do this process once, so you might as well do it properly. Wood sealer gives the floor that extra bit of protection and helps prevent damage from staining, heat and scratching. It also builds a good base onto which the final varnish can be applied.
