Floor Sanding Basildon
Basildon Floor Sanding (SS12 and SS13): If you have wooden floorboards in your home in Basildon, you might be thinking about having them sanded down and used as the final floor surface, replacing your existing carpets with a beautiful and hard wearing floor, free of dust, allergens and mites. This can be done with both soft and hardwood floors and it can even add value to your property.
To have floor sanding done properly it is usually advisable to call in a local Basildon floor sanding company who specialise in this sort of work. With a bit of research you will find that there are several in the Basildon area and other places in Essex. Whilst you could have a bash at doing your own floor sanding it is not really a DIY sort of job because some quite expensive equipment is needed to carry it out effectively. A decent Basildon floor sanding company will have all the proper gear.
Hiring a professional floor sanding company in Basildon will mean that the job is done properly and with as little dust and mess as possible. If you used your own hand-held sanding machine you would get dust everywhere throughout the house and it could take months to clear. With specialist sanding equipment all the wood dust is sucked up by a powerful extraction system, leaving just a perfectly smooth wood surface that can then be finished appropriately.
Of course this professional machinery is available for hire throughout Essex, if not in Basildon itself, if you decide to go down the do-it-yourself route. It isn't cheap to hire, so get yourself organised and try to get all the sanding done in one day. You will obviously not have to stress about this if you employ a flooring company as they will provide all this equipment themselves.
While you could perhaps move stuff from one side of the room to the other while doing the sanding, it is much better if the room is cleared completely. This should include soft furnishings and furniture, plus any existing floor coverings such as carpets, underlay and grippers. Any screws or nails that are protruding from the floorboards will also need to be removed or punched below the surface.
To end up with a really smooth and damage free floor surface, some additional repair work may need to be done. The entire floor will have to be inspected with a fine tooth comb to identify any splits, defects and cracks, which can be repaired and filled with a good quality wood filler. Similar attention can be given to holes left by nails or screws and damage caused by carpet grippers and threshold strips. The wood filler needs to be matched at closely as possible to the colour of the wood.
The last stage of the process will be sealing and finishing your floor. These days not everybody uses sealer on wood floors since the modern varnishes are supposed to do the job of sealing and finishing your sanded wood surface. Our own opinion is that it is better to give your floor a coat of sealant first, as this brings out the natural colour of the wood, gives extra protection against scratching and staining, and gives the perfect base for the final coats of varnish. For varnishing use a good quality polyurethane product such as Ronseal Diamond Hard Floor Varnish and give it two or three coats.
