Floor Sanding Chorley
Chorley Floor Sanding (PR7): The look of your flooring is something which sets your property in Chorley apart from those of your friends and neighbours. A beautiful looking floor can add value to your home and transform the whole look of any room. The most attractive of all floor surfaces is natural wood, and the truth is that most of us already have a wooden floor, but cover it up with carpets and other artificial materials. Having your existing wooden floor sanded down, sealed and finished is the easy way to get that floor you have always dreamed of.
While floor sanding is not something that is impossible for you to do yourself, you will need to be able to get hold of the proper equipment and be confident in using it. If you feel you can, then by all means have a go, but you may be better to get in touch with a local floor sanding company in Chorley, who will arrive fully kitted out to do the job properly. If possible get recommendations from people that you know have had floor sanding done in the past.
Your first thought will probably be that this is going to create an awful lot of mess and dust, but that is actually not the case. Your floor sanding company will not be using little hand held sanders such as those you might have used for sanding down a door or some paintwork. They will turn up with some pretty hefty equipment which includes an extraction system that sucks up all the dust as the sanding progresses.
Of course this professional machinery is available for hire throughout Lancashire, if not in Chorley itself, if you decide to go down the do-it-yourself route. It isn't cheap to hire, so get yourself organised and try to get all the sanding done in one day. You will obviously not have to stress about this if you employ a flooring company as they will provide all this equipment themselves.
While you could perhaps move stuff from one side of the room to the other while doing the sanding, it is much better if the room is cleared completely. This should include soft furnishings and furniture, plus any existing floor coverings such as carpets, underlay and grippers. Any screws or nails that are protruding from the floorboards will also need to be removed or punched below the surface.
When the floor has been sanded with a roughish sandpaper, any required repairs can be carried out before the final smooth sanding finish is completed. Missing pieces of floorboard can be replaced, cracking and splits can be repaired and any ugly holes left by screws, nails and other fixings can be carefully caulked with a matching coloured wood filler, to give your floor that professionally finished appearance.
The last stage of the process will be sealing and finishing your floor. These days not everybody uses sealer on wood floors since the modern varnishes are supposed to do the job of sealing and finishing your sanded wood surface. Our own opinion is that it is better to give your floor a coat of sealant first, as this brings out the natural colour of the wood, gives extra protection against scratching and staining, and gives the perfect base for the final coats of varnish. For varnishing use a good quality polyurethane product such as Ronseal Diamond Hard Floor Varnish and give it two or three coats.
