Floor Sanding Cramlington
Cramlington Floor Sanding (NE23): The look of your flooring is something which sets your property in Cramlington apart from those of your friends and neighbours. A beautiful looking floor can add value to your home and transform the whole look of any room. The most attractive of all floor surfaces is natural wood, and the truth is that most of us already have a wooden floor, but cover it up with carpets and other artificial materials. Having your existing wooden floor sanded down, sealed and finished is the easy way to get that floor you have always dreamed of.
While floor sanding is not something that is impossible for you to do yourself, you will need to be able to get hold of the proper equipment and be confident in using it. If you feel you can, then by all means have a go, but you may be better to get in touch with a local floor sanding company in Cramlington, who will arrive fully kitted out to do the job properly. If possible get recommendations from people that you know have had floor sanding done in the past.
You may be worried about a lot of dust being generated during the floor sanding process but this should not be the case at all if you decide to call in a professional Cramlington floor sanding company. They will use specialist floor sanding machines which include powerful extraction systems, easily sucking up any dust that is produced and storing it until it can be properly disposed of. If you went at it with your own electric sander you will fill the house with dust and get yourself in a terrible mess. The result will also not be as good.
Specialist floor sanding machines are not of course exclusive to the professionals, so if you do decide to have a go at sanding your own floors you could always hire the necessary equipment which is readily available somewhere in the Cramlington or Northumberland area. Ask the hire company exactly what you need and they will advise as to the best machines for your project. There are some well known makes of floor sander including Pallmann, Lagler, Bona and Hummer.
Having a room that is completely clear of furniture and anything else is preferable when you are carrying out the floor sanding operation. The sanders are quite large and need to be swung around the room, therefore having stuff in the way is not ideal. Clear everything out of there and let the dog see the rabbit (as they say), it will make the job so much simpler.
To end up with a really smooth and damage free floor surface, some additional repair work may need to be done. The entire floor will have to be inspected with a fine tooth comb to identify any splits, defects and cracks, which can be repaired and filled with a good quality wood filler. Similar attention can be given to holes left by nails or screws and damage caused by carpet grippers and threshold strips. The wood filler needs to be matched at closely as possible to the colour of the wood.
The last stage of the process will be sealing and finishing your floor. These days not everybody uses sealer on wood floors since the modern varnishes are supposed to do the job of sealing and finishing your sanded wood surface. Our own opinion is that it is better to give your floor a coat of sealant first, as this brings out the natural colour of the wood, gives extra protection against scratching and staining, and gives the perfect base for the final coats of varnish. For varnishing use a good quality polyurethane product such as Ronseal Diamond Hard Floor Varnish and give it two or three coats.
