Floor Sanding Rayleigh
Rayleigh Floor Sanding (SS6): If your property in Rayleigh has wooden floorboards there is always the possibility that use could use this beautiful natural material as your final floor surface, rather than covering it up with man-made products such as carpet and vinyl. This will probably add some value to your property and also reduce the incidence of dust, allergens and mites, which is especially beneficial if you suffer from asthma or allergies. Having your floorboards sanded down would be the first step in this process.
To have floor sanding done properly it is usually advisable to call in a local Rayleigh floor sanding company who specialise in this sort of work. With a bit of research you will find that there are several in the Rayleigh area and other places in Essex. Whilst you could have a bash at doing your own floor sanding it is not really a DIY sort of job because some quite expensive equipment is needed to carry it out effectively. A decent Rayleigh floor sanding company will have all the proper gear.
Hiring a professional floor sanding company in Rayleigh will mean that the job is done properly and with as little dust and mess as possible. If you used your own hand-held sanding machine you would get dust everywhere throughout the house and it could take months to clear. With specialist sanding equipment all the wood dust is sucked up by a powerful extraction system, leaving just a perfectly smooth wood surface that can then be finished appropriately.
Of course this professional machinery is available for hire throughout Essex, if not in Rayleigh itself, if you decide to go down the do-it-yourself route. It isn't cheap to hire, so get yourself organised and try to get all the sanding done in one day. You will obviously not have to stress about this if you employ a flooring company as they will provide all this equipment themselves.
Before any sanding actually begins the relevant rooms will need to be completely clear of furniture and furnishings. Carpets and associated flooring will need to be removed, as will any nails or screws which are sticking up from the flooring. The sanding machine has to be swept around the room so it is better without any obstructions in the way.
To end up with a really smooth and damage free floor surface, some additional repair work may need to be done. The entire floor will have to be inspected with a fine tooth comb to identify any splits, defects and cracks, which can be repaired and filled with a good quality wood filler. Similar attention can be given to holes left by nails or screws and damage caused by carpet grippers and threshold strips. The wood filler needs to be matched at closely as possible to the colour of the wood.
The last stage of the process will be sealing and finishing your floor. These days not everybody uses sealer on wood floors since the modern varnishes are supposed to do the job of sealing and finishing your sanded wood surface. Our own opinion is that it is better to give your floor a coat of sealant first, as this brings out the natural colour of the wood, gives extra protection against scratching and staining, and gives the perfect base for the final coats of varnish. For varnishing use a good quality polyurethane product such as Ronseal Diamond Hard Floor Varnish and give it two or three coats.
