Floor Sanding Redcar
Redcar Floor Sanding (TS10): If you are fed up with having carpets in your home in Redcar, and would prefer a low maintenance floor that is easy to clean and doesn't gather dust and allergens, perhaps a wooden floor surface may be the answer. If you already have wood floorboards under that dusty old carpet then you are already halfway there. You could have this flooring sanded down and end up with a practical and beautiful floor surface that will be the envy or your friends.
Floor sanding is not for the faint hearted and if you decide to proceed you will need to be prepared for a bit of upheaval. You could control this to some degree if you choose to do it yourself but not many homeowners in Redcar have the expertise or willingness to take on such a project. Local Redcar floor sanding companies will be your likely port of call and if you can't find a suitable on nearby, there are others throughout North Yorkshire who should be able to help.
Your first thought will probably be that this is going to create an awful lot of mess and dust, but that is actually not the case. Your floor sanding company will not be using little hand held sanders such as those you might have used for sanding down a door or some paintwork. They will turn up with some pretty hefty equipment which includes an extraction system that sucks up all the dust as the sanding progresses.
Companies such as: Hummer, Lagler, Pallmann and Bona produce professional floor sanding machinery, and many of these can of course be hired from tool hire businesses around Redcar and elsewhere in North Yorkshire, should you need one. If you're using a specialist floor sanding service for the project, you will not need to concern yourself with that though. It is however worth bearing in mind if you do choose to do your own floors.
Your Redcar floor sanding contractors will probably ask you to clear everything from any rooms that are to be worked on, although they may be prepared to help you with this if you are unable to do it yourself. Chat with them about it beforehand and see what can be worked out. A clear, clean room is essential when carrying out this sort of work, so get all that stuff out of there! Larger heavy items of furniture could possibly be left in there and moved from end to end, but again talk with the company.
In order to get your sanded floor up to the required standard there will be some more work to do before any sealing or finishing can take place. There could be some splits and cracks in the floorboards and also screw and nail holes, which all need to be filled with a suitably coloured wood filler. The repaired areas will need to be given a final sanding with a fine abrasive to give that super fine finish.
The last stage of the process will be sealing and finishing your floor. These days not everybody uses sealer on wood floors since the modern varnishes are supposed to do the job of sealing and finishing your sanded wood surface. Our own opinion is that it is better to give your floor a coat of sealant first, as this brings out the natural colour of the wood, gives extra protection against scratching and staining, and gives the perfect base for the final coats of varnish. For varnishing use a good quality polyurethane product such as Ronseal Diamond Hard Floor Varnish and give it two or three coats.
Wood Floor Maintenance Redcar
If you love your attractive new floor, you will want to keep it looking like it does right now. In order to do this it will need regular maintenance and care. You can take a few measures to avoid damaging your floor and these include taking off footwear before entering the room, wiping up spillages as soon as they happen, fitting the feet of furniture with felt pads and cleaning the floor regularly with a good quality wood floor cleaner. Keep your eyes open for worn patches because these will need treating before they break through to the bare wood.
