Floor Sanding Sale
Sale Floor Sanding (M33): If you have wooden floorboards in your home in Sale, you might be thinking about having them sanded down and used as the final floor surface, replacing your existing carpets with a beautiful and hard wearing floor, free of dust, allergens and mites. This can be done with both soft and hardwood floors and it can even add value to your property.
There are a number of companies in the Sale area and throughout Greater Manchester, who you could contact for floor sanding services. Obviously with a quite significant project like this you need to find somebody decent. If you have a friend or family member who has had this kind of work done they might be able to give a recommendation for a floor sanding company in Sale who do a good job. This isn't really something that you want to try yourself unless you are a really competent do-it-yourselfer, and you can get your hands on the right equipment.
You may be worried about a lot of dust being generated during the floor sanding process but this should not be the case at all if you decide to call in a professional Sale floor sanding company. They will use specialist floor sanding machines which include powerful extraction systems, easily sucking up any dust that is produced and storing it until it can be properly disposed of. If you went at it with your own electric sander you will fill the house with dust and get yourself in a terrible mess. The result will also not be as good.
Obviously is is not just the professionals who have access to the finest floor sanding machines, and you could easily hire the required machinery if you really are determined to tackle the task yourself. Some of the best known makes of sanders include: Lagler, Bona, Hummer and Pallmann. You are going to need a drum sander and an edging sander, plus some associated equipment and rather than going into all the details here you can ask at the hire shop and they will give you what you need.
While you could perhaps move stuff from one side of the room to the other while doing the sanding, it is much better if the room is cleared completely. This should include soft furnishings and furniture, plus any existing floor coverings such as carpets, underlay and grippers. Any screws or nails that are protruding from the floorboards will also need to be removed or punched below the surface.
When the floor has been sanded with a roughish sandpaper, any required repairs can be carried out before the final smooth sanding finish is completed. Missing pieces of floorboard can be replaced, cracking and splits can be repaired and any ugly holes left by screws, nails and other fixings can be carefully caulked with a matching coloured wood filler, to give your floor that professionally finished appearance.
The last stage of the process will be sealing and finishing your floor. These days not everybody uses sealer on wood floors since the modern varnishes are supposed to do the job of sealing and finishing your sanded wood surface. Our own opinion is that it is better to give your floor a coat of sealant first, as this brings out the natural colour of the wood, gives extra protection against scratching and staining, and gives the perfect base for the final coats of varnish. For varnishing use a good quality polyurethane product such as Ronseal Diamond Hard Floor Varnish and give it two or three coats.
