Floor Sanding Stafford
Stafford Floor Sanding (ST16): If you are fed up with having carpets in your home in Stafford, and would prefer a low maintenance floor that is easy to clean and doesn't gather dust and allergens, perhaps a wooden floor surface may be the answer. If you already have wood floorboards under that dusty old carpet then you are already halfway there. You could have this flooring sanded down and end up with a practical and beautiful floor surface that will be the envy or your friends.
While floor sanding is not something that is impossible for you to do yourself, you will need to be able to get hold of the proper equipment and be confident in using it. If you feel you can, then by all means have a go, but you may be better to get in touch with a local floor sanding company in Stafford, who will arrive fully kitted out to do the job properly. If possible get recommendations from people that you know have had floor sanding done in the past.
You may be worried about a lot of dust being generated during the floor sanding process but this should not be the case at all if you decide to call in a professional Stafford floor sanding company. They will use specialist floor sanding machines which include powerful extraction systems, easily sucking up any dust that is produced and storing it until it can be properly disposed of. If you went at it with your own electric sander you will fill the house with dust and get yourself in a terrible mess.
The best floor sanders are made by companies like: Hummer, Bona, Pallmann and Lagler, and most of these are available to hire in places around Staffordshire if you cannot find any in Stafford itself. Obviously you will only need to do this if you do elect to press ahead with your own floor sanding project, since specialist companies will have their own sanders. Check with the hire company to find out exactly what you need and take it from there if you take this route.
While you could perhaps move stuff from one side of the room to the other while doing the sanding, it is much better if the room is cleared completely. This should include soft furnishings and furniture, plus any existing floor coverings such as carpets, underlay and grippers. Any screws or nails that are protruding from the floorboards will also need to be removed or punched below the surface.
In order to get your sanded floor up to the required standard there will be some more work to do before any sealing or finishing can take place. There could be some splits and cracks in the floorboards and also screw and nail holes, which all need to be filled with a suitably coloured wood filler. The repaired areas will need to be given a final sanding with a fine abrasive to give that super fine finish.
The last stage of the process will be sealing and finishing your floor. These days not everybody uses sealer on wood floors since the modern varnishes are supposed to do the job of sealing and finishing your sanded wood surface. Our own opinion is that it is better to give your floor a coat of sealant first, as this brings out the natural colour of the wood, gives extra protection against scratching and staining, and gives the perfect base for the final coats of varnish. For varnishing use a good quality polyurethane product such as Ronseal Diamond Hard Floor Varnish and give it two or three coats.
