Floor Sanding Deal
Deal Floor Sanding (CT14): If you have wooden floorboards in your home in Deal, you might be thinking about having them sanded down and used as the final floor surface, replacing your existing carpets with a beautiful and hard wearing floor, free of dust, allergens and mites. This can be done with both soft and hardwood floors and it can even add value to your property.
Floor sanding is not for the faint hearted and if you decide to proceed you will need to be prepared for a bit of upheaval. You could control this to some degree if you choose to do it yourself but not many homeowners in Deal have the expertise or willingness to take on such a project. Local Deal floor sanding companies will be your likely port of call and if you can't find a suitable on nearby, there are others throughout Kent who should be able to help.
In order to get your floors sanded without generating a huge amount of mess and wood dust a professional Deal floor sanding company will bring in some pretty impressive equipment. Modern sanding machines are very powerful and have an extraction system incorporated to extract all the wood dust as it is generated, meaning the whole process is relatively dust-free. So you can see why going at it with your little hand held Black & Decker sander is not really going to cut it for work like this.
Specialist floor sanding machines are not of course exclusive to the professionals, so if you do decide to have a go at sanding your own floors you could always hire the necessary equipment which is readily available somewhere in the Deal or Kent area. Ask the hire company exactly what you need and they will advise as to the best machines for your project. There are some well known makes of floor sander including Lagler, Hummer, Bona and Pallmann.
Although it may not always be necessary, you should really completely clear any rooms that need to be sanded. The sanding machinery is quite bulky and whoever is doing the work will need to have room to swing it around. A clean, clear room is going to make the entire process simpler, so if you can do this so much the better.
To end up with a really smooth and damage free floor surface, some additional repair work may need to be done. The entire floor will have to be inspected with a fine tooth comb to identify any splits, defects and cracks, which can be repaired and filled with a good quality wood filler. Similar attention can be given to holes left by nails or screws and damage caused by carpet grippers and threshold strips. The wood filler needs to be matched at closely as possible to the colour of the wood.
The last stage of the process will be sealing and finishing your floor. These days not everybody uses sealer on wood floors since the modern varnishes are supposed to do the job of sealing and finishing your sanded wood surface. Our own opinion is that it is better to give your floor a coat of sealant first, as this brings out the natural colour of the wood, gives extra protection against scratching and staining, and gives the perfect base for the final coats of varnish. For varnishing use a good quality polyurethane product such as Ronseal Diamond Hard Floor Varnish and give it two or three coats.
