Floor Sanding Maghull
Maghull Floor Sanding (L31): If you are fed up with having carpets in your home in Maghull, and would prefer a low maintenance floor that is easy to clean and doesn't gather dust and allergens, perhaps a wooden floor surface may be the answer. If you already have wood floorboards under that dusty old carpet then you are already halfway there. You could have this flooring sanded down and end up with a practical and beautiful floor surface that will be the envy or your friends.
To have floor sanding done properly it is usually advisable to call in a local Maghull floor sanding company who specialise in this sort of work. With a bit of research you will find that there are several in the Maghull area and other places in Merseyside. Whilst you could have a bash at doing your own floor sanding it is not really a DIY sort of job because some quite expensive equipment is needed to carry it out effectively. A decent Maghull floor sanding company will have all the proper gear.
You may be worried about a lot of dust being generated during the floor sanding process but this should not be the case at all if you decide to call in a professional Maghull floor sanding company. They will use specialist floor sanding machines which include powerful extraction systems, easily sucking up any dust that is produced and storing it until it can be properly disposed of. If you went at it with your own electric sander you will fill the house with dust and get yourself in a terrible mess. The result will also not be as good.
Obviously is is not just the professionals who have access to the finest floor sanding machines, and you could easily hire the required machinery if you really are determined to tackle the task yourself. Some of the best known makes of sanders include: Hummer, Bona, Pallmann and Lagler. You are going to need a drum sander and an edging sander, plus some associated equipment and rather than going into all the details here you can ask at the hire shop and they will give you what you need.
Your Maghull floor sanding contractors will probably ask you to clear everything from any rooms that are to be worked on, although they may be prepared to help you with this if you are unable to do it yourself. Chat with them about it beforehand and see what can be worked out. A clear, clean room is essential when carrying out this sort of work, so get all that stuff out of there! Larger heavy items of furniture could possibly be left in there and moved from end to end, but again talk with the company.
To end up with a really smooth and damage free floor surface, some additional repair work may need to be done. The entire floor will have to be inspected with a fine tooth comb to identify any splits, defects and cracks, which can be repaired and filled with a good quality wood filler. Similar attention can be given to holes left by nails or screws and damage caused by carpet grippers and threshold strips. The wood filler needs to be matched at closely as possible to the colour of the wood.
The last stage of the process will be sealing and finishing your floor. These days not everybody uses sealer on wood floors since the modern varnishes are supposed to do the job of sealing and finishing your sanded wood surface. Our own opinion is that it is better to give your floor a coat of sealant first, as this brings out the natural colour of the wood, gives extra protection against scratching and staining, and gives the perfect base for the final coats of varnish. For varnishing use a good quality polyurethane product such as Ronseal Diamond Hard Floor Varnish and give it two or three coats.
Wood Floor Maintenance Maghull
A wood floor needs regular maintenance no matter whether its in an office, a busy pub or the living room of your house. Sweep dust away daily if possible and clean using a patent wood floor cleaner and a microfibre cloth or mop. Remember to use felt pads on the feet of your furniture, take off shoes before walking into the room and immediately wipe away anything that is spilt on the floor, especially anything hot or chemical based. You want to avoid any areas wearing through to the bare wood, which will make it hard to repair, so keep your eyes peeled for this issue.
