Floor Sanding March
March Floor Sanding (PE15): If you are fed up with having carpets in your home in March, and would prefer a low maintenance floor that is easy to clean and doesn't gather dust and allergens, perhaps a wooden floor surface may be the answer. If you already have wood floorboards under that dusty old carpet then you are already halfway there. You could have this flooring sanded down and end up with a practical and beautiful floor surface that will be the envy or your friends.
There are a number of companies in the March area and throughout Cambridgeshire, who you could contact for floor sanding services. Obviously with a quite significant project like this you need to find somebody decent. If you have a friend or family member who has had this kind of work done they might be able to give a recommendation for a floor sanding company in March who do a good job. This isn't really something that you want to try yourself unless you are a really competent do-it-yourselfer, and you can get your hands on the right equipment.
Hiring a professional floor sanding company in March will mean that the job is done properly and with as little dust and mess as possible. If you used your own hand-held sanding machine you would get dust everywhere throughout the house and it could take months to clear. With specialist sanding equipment all the wood dust is sucked up by a powerful extraction system, leaving just a perfectly smooth wood surface that can then be finished appropriately.
Of course this professional machinery is available for hire throughout Cambridgeshire, if not in March itself, if you decide to go down the do-it-yourself route. It isn't cheap to hire, so get yourself organised and try to get all the sanding done in one day. You will obviously not have to stress about this if you employ a flooring company as they will provide all this equipment themselves.
Having a room that is completely clear of furniture and anything else is preferable when you are carrying out the floor sanding operation. The sanders are quite large and need to be swung around the room, therefore having stuff in the way is not ideal. Clear everything out of there and let the dog see the rabbit (as they say), it will make the job so much simpler.
To get the sort of professional finish that you are looking for it will almost certainly be necessary to do more than simply sand down your floorboards and give them a coat of varnish. There are bound to be some minor imperfections such as splits, nail holes, screw holes and cracks, and there may even be some larger repairs needed where sections of floorboard are missing or damaged. These should all be repaired to the best possible standard, filled with wood filler and given a final sanding. Any wood filler used should match the colour of the floorboards, test an area before the final filling.
The next job is to give the sanded floor a generous coat of sealer, Liberon is usually a good choice. This provides a perfect base on which to brush the finishing coats of varnish, and offers some valuable extra protection against a number of issues which could affect your floor in the future. This will be resistant to alcohol, heat and water, and also help prevent scratching, scuffing and staining. Once dry, your floorboards can then be given a quick final sanding with smooth paper and finally 2 or 3 coats of finishing varnish.
